Going Passwordless with Windows Hello

Going passwordless is an up and coming security approach. It allows users to access an application or system without entering a password. Instead of passwords, users provide other forms of identification. Such as biometric, passkey, QR code, hardware token code, or symbol.

Microsoft, for example, has implemented a passwordless feature for its accounts. If you have set up Windows Hello, you can cut the password sign-in method for a more secure experience. Once you remove the password choice feature on your device that uses your Microsoft account and password, including various apps and web browsers, you can transition to using Windows Hello’s facial recognition, fingerprint identification, or PIN code.

To go passwordless with your Microsoft account is simple:

1. Use the Settings app on your Windows device

2. Select Accounts > Sign-in options

3. Under Ways to sign in, select facial recognition, fingerprint recognition or PIN code

4. Set up your desired choice

The next time you sign in to your device, you will not have the choice to use your password. Only the Windows Hello face, fingerprint, or PIN gestures will be available.

This approach enhances security. Weak passwords are often the entry point for many attacks. By going passwordless, you are reducing the risk of your account getting hacked. It is a step towards a more secure and convenient digital experience. Keep in mind that not all Windows computers can use facial recognition or fingerprint recognition.
